Billy Joe Saunders Could Possibly Defend Title On Canelo-Smith card.

According to ESPN's Dan Rafael, Golden Boy Promotions and Frank Warren are currently working on a deal that would land WBO Middleweight Champion Billy Joe Saunders on the upcoming September 17th Canelo Alvarez vs Liam Smith card. This would reportedly be a deal that if both Alvarez & Saunders emerged victorious on September 17th that the two would meet in December.
That December 7th date would be Canelo Alvarez's debut at 160 pounds, according to Eric Gomez as reported by ESPN. One can only wonder why Canelo would return to the junior middleweight division, somewhere he has not competed at since 2013, to then move up to 160 pounds three months later.
However if all of this does indeed come to fruition that would mean that we would be one step closer to boxing's next mega bout, which would pit Canelo Alvarez against WBC,WBA, & IBF middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. The two camps reportedly have made a deal for fall 2017 fight.
