Bob Arum "Golovkin vs Brook makes absolutely no f-ckin sense!"
As you can imagine Hall Of Fame boxing promoter Bob Arum was very disappointed when he heard the news that WBC,IBF,WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin would be taking on IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook. Not only was Arum shocked at the fact that Golovkin would be facing a man from a weight two classes below him, but also due to the fact that Arum had been in negotiations for months for a unification bout between Arum's fighter WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas to fight Kell Brook. Multiple reports surfaced that the fight was finalized and that they were just working minor issues.
RingTV contacted Arum not long after the fight was announced and his response was just what one would expect. "Golovkin is fighting who?,I don't believe that. That's crazy.I mean, Golovkin is fighting a welterweight? Alright, that's something. You hear something crazy everyday. I'm not surprised. I'm a little shocked. Is that even a fight?"
Arum was upset that Eddie Hearn Kell Brooks promoter did not contact him regarding the matter. "It's alright,no problem. But I don't believe it. Come on. That makes absolutely no f-ckin sense. It just makes no sense. Golovkin vs Eubank makes sense.At least Eubank is a middleweight. It's not a bad fight. But Gennady Golovkin against a welterweight? Give me a break."
